We were among the first 500 signatories in 2002 and became a Participant of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in 2017. Ιn 2022, we became an Early Adopter of the UNGC Enhanced Communication on Progress (CoP) Program, being among the 5% of the UNGC participants worldwide to join. This is part of our commitment to maximize the transparency of our disclosures for our stakeholders while implementing UNGC Ten Principles and contributing to SDGs.
We support the achievement of the most relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for our business by 2030 at Group level and through our local UNGC networks.
We are one of the first cement companies worldwide to have our CO2 emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
We signed the “Business Ambition for 1.5°C”, led by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in partnership with the UN Global Compact and the We Mean Business coalition, committed to keeping global warming to 1.5°C and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. By signing this, we also joined the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) “Race to Zero” global campaign.
We collaborate with the world’s most influential businesses within the nonprofit “We Mean Business Coalition” to ensure that the world economy is on track to avoid dangerous climate change, while delivering sustainable growth and prosperity for all.
We have been a member of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) since 2018. We also participate in the GCCA Research Network, INNOVANDI, aiming to bring forth novel technological solutions towards decarbonization in collaboration with start-ups from across the globe.
We participate in the Energy Transition and Climate Change Working Group of the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) to address the triggers for a successful transition towards a low carbon economy, and thus contribute to achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
We participate in the European Cement Research Academy (ECRA), founded in 2003, which supports and conducts research activities on the production of cement and its application in concrete, aiming at advancing innovation within the context of climate change mitigation and sustainable construction.
We became a member of CSR Europe in 2004, and founding members of national partner organizations. We participated in the collaborative work for the “Biodiversity and Industry Collaborative Platform”, and the “Inclusion Think Tank’’.
In 2023, we became a supporter of the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), the not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing environmental challenges. By aligning with CDP, we are part of a collective effort to drive positive environmental change. By measuring, managing, and disclosing our environmental data through CDP, we are not only demonstrating a commitment to corporate responsibility but also gaining valuable tools and resources to navigate the transition to a low-carbon economy.
